COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING.

-

Community is at the heart of everything we do. When we come together, we lift each other up—and our industry thrives. Meet some of the incredible people who help make us who we are.

Dustin Wilson V -

I'm about to quit my day job and go full time freelance as an editor all because of one chance connection I made at an FCT mixer last fall. Jordan McGrath took me under his wing and got me work when I was barely out of film school. It's all because of him and FCT that I'm able to call the film business my business. Thank you so much for all your work!!!

Jacob Leander -
Commercial Coordinator

It’s been really neat to see this group of working film crew open the doors and remove the gatekeeping, making access to the professional film industry more accessible to all.

Kate Becker -
King County Creative Economy Director

The Film Community Training Program has hosted many sessions at Harbor Island Studios. It has been fulfilling to witness how the community pulls together to make these skills trainings happen successfully. Union leaders, small businesses and film industry volunteers work collaboratively to offer high quality, hands on experiential learning free of charge to all registrants. Its been a phenomenal initiative to host at Harbor Island Studios.
Seeing the energy and enthusiasm exhibited by eager film community members as they dive into hands on skills training led by union pros is always a thrill. Film Community Training Program has made these opportunities a reality, regularly offering free, all day sessions at Harbor Island Studios.

Nii Okaidja -
Director of Photography

I recently attended a steadicam and car rigging workshop hosted by FCT and I learned more in those two days than I could ever find out on YouTube or waiting for the opportunity to learn on the job. The FCT program is filled with amazing people who are passionate about sharing experiences in the industry, it felt like I could talk to anymore and grow out my network. After all, my network is my net worth. I’m forever grateful for people like Mike Astle, Jordan and Devante for their contributions to this community.

Nick McGrane -
Cinematographer

FCT is an incredible community bringing together film creatives of all experience levels. Being new to the Seattle scene, the FCT events gave given me a huge amount of insight and personal connections to carry into my professional career. It’s the ultimate melting pot of creative Seattlites!

The FCT program/org is an invaluable and essential piece of growth, networking, education, and enrichment that has long been missing from the Seattle Film Industry. Every event i attend, I get to meet new friends, coworkers, colleagues, and learn new things to better hone my skillsets and be sharper, more cognizant, and understanding of everyone's roles and functionality on set, to help be a part of a more efficient and safer workplace.

Lorena Soto -
Makeup Artist & Hairstylist

The first event I went to (and heard more about FCT) was the tattoo cover up event led by a few MUAs, including my friends Luce and Michelle, and it was so fun and truly a time to play and test it out in a realistic situation! Sometimes it’s hard to do that, whether it’s finding an opportunity to audition products on a real set to see how it performs or just finding time to play. It’s amazing to see FCT provides that and the atmosphere they create is full of creativity and community! I love it and how Mike checks in with people about what they want to see next and has even checked in with me to see what I would particularly like to see or teach next in the hair and makeup world. After working over a decade in hair and makeup, I know how important it is to continue education in your craft — I’m so grateful for FCT!

Patrick Tensen -
Gaffer/Grip

In a world where things are increasingly becoming privatized and expensive, it’s nice to have breath of fresh air coming from FCT. The passion to create is what keeps our heads above water in troubled times!

Lindsey Watkins -
Makeup Artist & Hairstylist

I’ve been a professional hair & makeup artist in seattle for over 20 years and last year I brought my 7 year old daughter to the Special FX workshop back in October thinking we’d stay for an hour because she would be bored, but after 3 hours I had to drag her out of there so we weren’t late to our next engagement. She was enthralled watching a human female transform into a creepy zombie before her eyes! We both had a great time, and I know this formative experience with stick with her for years. Months later, we still talk about this workshop often!

Brent Winthrop -

My name is Brent and I have attended a couple of FCT's events and mixers. FCT is an integral part of the filming community here in the greater Seattle, as they continue to help grow, train, and shape present and future filmmakers get better at their craft. I look forward to future events and more sessions!

Mikaela Porter -

FCT has been a game changer when it comes to connecting the film community. Not only have I felt like the film industry has come together and networked the people that didnt feel seen, but it has also created a learning environment that provides workshops and forums that have only made everyone stronger. Watch out because when projects come to town, we are ready to go with the knowledge and teams to make it happen!

Lyric Weiss -

I attended my first FCT event recently, the camera rigging workshop, and I had an absolute blast. It was so much fun to see some old friends, make some new ones, and talk shop all day. I’m a diehard fan of FCT ever since, and I’m so grateful to have them in our Seattle film community.

Billy Venturelli -

FTC has been a vital vein supplying  knowledge, hands on experiences and networking to the film community of Seattle. Since it's inception, I've personally seen the film community grown and thrive as we continue to gather and learn off one another.

Maya Kanga -

Over the past 2 years, FCT’s impact on the Seattle film community has been invaluable. Their free workshops provide wider access to niche film industry topics that are otherwise a lot harder for amateurs to come in contact with, and the added element of bringing filmmakers (established & aspiring) together really helps strengthen the city as a film hub.

Franky Hawk -

I have only been to a few FCT events, but every one was so lovely and fulfilling. The special effect workshop last October really sparked something in me that I am beginning to grow. I can see a path for myself in the film industry and it’s all thanks to the efforts of the FCT program! Excited to see what else they do.

Emma Jordan -

FCT has been such a great resource for filmmaking in the Seattle area. It’s difficult to find training in such specialized skills in filmmaking, so to have the community come together and share their knowledge is invaluable for up and coming filmmakers, as well as professionals. The hands on practice you get with this program is better than that of some college courses, and creating a space where gear is accessible to everyone is so rare to find these days. This program is incredibly necessary to support anyone and everyone who wants to pursue filmmaking.

Ilana Rahaman -

FCT is completely elevating the film community in Seattle! Not only is it creating a safe learning atmosphere for people who want to build a career in the film and tv industry, but it is a powerful networking opportunity. FCT is a fantastic program, unique to Seattle’s blossoming film scene!

Jenya Steevens -

It is difficult to overestimate the impact that the program has had on my life. Each workshop not only gave me hands-on knowledge and skills, but more importantly, it introduced me to the community. All meetings and materials were presented in a highly structured manner, and the workshops were held in real cinematography pavilions. For me, as someone who grew up and works in the film and theater industry, but in a different country, it was extremely useful to understand how everything is organized and works in America, especially in Seattle. I am really looking forward to new meetings! Miss you guys!
